Cooperation
As we enter January, we will be working on cooperative games in PE. Games that challenge students to work together for the success of their team. I will also be kicking off a new program to encourage the students to look for the good in their classmates. Approximately every two weeks I will be asking the students to suggest a classmate that they feel is contributing to the overall success of our class time. It has been my honor to model this behavior thus far in the school year and recognize daily students who contribute to the success of our class time. Now I would like to shift the selection to the students and have them be looking to their peers and seeing who is modeling the outstanding behavior. Which student is showing good listening skills consistently? Which student gives their best everyday and tries hard at all activities? Which student encourages their classmates with positive words, plays fair and brings the senses of overall "WOW" to our class time? I will try to facilitate this recognition but, I would like to shift the responsibility to the students to recognizing their peers for the positive impact they bring to our class time.
January 9-11
Welcome back from our long winter break. We will be starting a unit on cooperative games this week. I look forward to the fun we are going to have learning to cooperate with each other for the success of all! We will be playing, Secret Hans Shake and Treasure Island. Friday will be our much anticipated Choice Day.
Jan 15-18
This week we will continue with our cooperative games unit. I look forward to playing a wide variety of games such as, Group Juggling , Stepping Stones, Loop Da Hoop, Switch, Change, Rotate, Rock, Paper, Scissors King and Queen, and Shipwreck and more! Please note we are outside and so bring a coat as it has been pretty cold outside these last couple of weeks.
Jan 22-25
We are inside this week so, no need for coats. We will be doing more of our cooperative games unit starting off Tuesday with the Hula House game. We will be doing 52+ pick-up Warm-up, Scooter Scramble, Fishing for Toys, Cooperative Money Math Race, Scooter Ships, (see photos below) and ending our week with Indiana Jones! So far it has been an AWESOME week as my students have welcomed and shown great COOPERATION as we have blended Mrs. Peerson's PE class with our classes due to the weather outside.
Jan 29-Feb 1
This week our focus will be on short jump rope skills. We will begin with basic rope turning and build our skills from there. This will be a two week unit and students will work in small groups and later with a partner. This unit is a self-paced unit where students will be working more independently than many of our other units. Students can progress at their own rate with the short rope challenges introduced. The sky is the limit when it comes to how far students can individual progress with this unit.
