Students will be demonstrating some large motor movement skills, skipping, galloping, walking, running, stop and start on signal, as well as rubber ball skills.

This week students were given their first look at this website in the computer lab before going to PE class. Stretches for the next two weeks are: Marching in Place, Arm Circles, ABC Push-ups, Shoulder Pulls, and Wall Jumps. These were demonstrated this week and lead by various students. Next week students will stretch themselves individually with these same stretches.
This week's focus was an introduction to skills used in the sport of football. We also began to build a vocabulary around football. Students were introduced to the following words: offense, defense, hand-off, fumble, pass, center, quarterback, receiver, line of scrimmage,
Students worked on the skills of running, dodging and building agility with individual flag pulling games. Students were taught how to receive and give a hand-off as well as how to protect the ball from possible fumbles. The skills of passing and receiving the football were also a focus of this week.
Due to the rain on Friday we had to eliminate our day of kick-offs and playing Bingo Football. Instead students played Pyramid Battle incorporating individualized stretching, following directions, and math skills.

Following-up on last week's football skills this week we incorporated those skills in the following game activities, 2nd grade played: Touchdown Tag, Home-run Football, Hike 'N' Catch, Miniature Football, Sprint Tag with partners and Bingo Football. 3rd grade played: End Zone, Capture the Football, Fake Out, and In the Zone. All classes did individualize stretching and reviewed the Monster Mash.
I was pleased to see the skill development from even the boys who said they weren't any good at football at the beginning of our unit, right through to all the girls. Look out West High Powered Puff Football, my girls are coming to you!

This week we were outside and the weather dictated a bit what we could do each day. We also had a shortened week with the grading day. On our wettest day we enjoyed playing the game Pyramid Battle. Once the weather settled a bit we were able to take off on our soccer skills, working on dribbling trapping, passing and ball control. We incorporated these skills into a trick or treat game and dibble math challenge. Our exercises for the week were wall jumps, wall push-up and the ghost chair sit.
